Give Sidekick a standing goal#
Objectives tell Sidekick what to achieve, how to measure success, and where to stop. Unlike a single chat message, an objective persists across sessions and routines until you mark it done.
Open Sidekick > Objectives to create and manage objectives.
Anatomy of an objective#

Delegation scope#
The delegation scope is a guardrail. The in-scope list tells Sidekick what actions it may take. The out-of-scope list tells it what to avoid — even if a tool technically allows it.
This prevents scope creep in autonomous work. Sidekick sees both lists before every decision.
Proof of execution#
Every objective carries a proof-of-execution summary that tracks:
- Outcome status — whether the objective advanced, stalled, or regressed
- Change summary — a one-line description of what changed
- Trigger mode — reactive, review-only, or scheduled
- Approval basis — whether the last action was approved, pending, or rejected
- Cost attribution — tokens used and estimated USD cost
- Recovery hint — what to do if the objective is stuck
This proof appears inline on the Objectives page and feeds the Today dashboard's rollup cards.
Traceability#
Each objective links to its related surfaces:
- Activity — filtered view of all events tied to this objective
- Approvals — pending and resolved approval decisions
Linking routines#
Objectives without linked routines appear in an "awaiting automation" badge. Link a routine to close the loop — the routine does the work, the objective tracks the outcome.
info You can link multiple routines to a single objective. Each routine contributes to the objective's progress independently.
warning Archiving an objective does not disable linked routines. Disable or delete routines separately if you want to stop all automation.
